Privacy Policy

Introduction

FileLens ("we", "our", or "the app") is a local file management application for Android. This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles your information.

Information We Do NOT Collect

FileLens does not collect or transmit your personal files or data. Specifically:

• Your files are never uploaded to any server
• We do not collect personal identification information
• We do not collect usage analytics ourselves (though third-party SDKs may collect diagnostic data as described below)
• We do not track your location
• We do not access your contacts, calendar, or other personal data

Local Data Storage

FileLens stores the following data locally on your device only:

• File Index: A database of file metadata (names, paths, sizes, dates) from your selected folders to enable fast searching
• App Preferences: Your settings such as theme preference, view mode, and custom source folders
• Thumbnail Cache: Cached thumbnails to improve performance

All this data remains on your device and is never transmitted anywhere. You can clear this data at any time through Android's app settings.

Permissions

FileLens requests the following permissions:

• Storage Access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): Required to scan and index files from Camera, Downloads, Screenshots, WhatsApp, and custom folders you select. This permission is used solely to read file metadata and display files within the app.
• Foreground Service: Used to perform file indexing in the background when you first set up the app.
• Post Notifications: Used to show progress during file indexing.
• Internet Access: Used for displaying ads (free version) and processing in-app purchases. Your files are never transmitted over the internet.

Text Search in Images

FileLens includes an optional feature to search for text within images. This feature:

• Runs entirely on your device
• Does not send images to any server
• Stores recognized text locally in the file index database

PDF Creation

When you create PDFs from images:

• PDFs are created locally on your device
• Files are saved to your Downloads folder
• No data is transmitted to any server

Advertising (Free Version)

The free version of FileLens displays advertisements through Google AdMob. Google AdMob may collect:

• Device advertising identifier (Advertising ID)
• General device information (model, OS version)
• IP address (for geographic targeting)

This data is collected by Google, not by us. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device's ad settings or purchase the premium version to remove all ads.

In-App Purchases

FileLens offers a one-time premium purchase to remove advertisements. Purchases are processed through Google Play Billing:

• We do not receive or store your payment information
• All payment processing is handled by Google Play
• Your purchase status is verified through Google Play services

GDPR/CCPA Consent

For users in the EU/EEA or California, FileLens uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to obtain consent for personalized advertising. You can change your consent preferences at any time through the app's settings or your device's ad preferences.

Third-Party Services

FileLens integrates the following third-party services:

• Google AdMob: For displaying advertisements in the free version
• Google Play Billing: For processing premium purchases
• Google ML Kit: For on-device text recognition. Image processing runs entirely on your device. However, ML Kit sends diagnostic and performance metrics to Google (device info, app version, API usage statistics). This data is encrypted and not shared with third parties beyond Google.

Your files are never transmitted to any of these services. Only the advertising SDK may collect device information as described above.

Children's Privacy

FileLens is not directed at children under 13. While we do not collect personal information ourselves, third-party advertising (Google AdMob) may collect device information as described above. Parents should review Google's policies regarding advertising to children.

Data Security

Your files and file index remain on your device and are protected by your device's own security measures (screen lock, encryption, etc.). Data transmitted by third-party SDKs (advertising, diagnostics) is encrypted in transit using HTTPS.

Data Deletion

FileLens stores all data locally on your device. We do not collect or store any personal data on external servers.

To delete all FileLens data:

• Open Android Settings
• Go to Apps → FileLens
• Tap "Clear Data" or "Clear Storage"

Alternatively, uninstalling the app removes all local data permanently.

To delete advertising data (collected by Google AdMob):

• Open Android Settings → Google → Ads
• Tap "Reset advertising ID" to generate a new identifier
• Or enable "Opt out of Ads Personalization" to limit ad tracking

To manage purchase history:

• Visit myaccount.google.com to manage your Google Play data

NO WARRANTY: FILELENS IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR COURSE OF PERFORMANCE. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE DEVELOPERS, OWNERS, OR AFFILIATES OF FILELENS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, GOODWILL, DATA, FILES, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

DATA LOSS: You acknowledge that FileLens interacts with files on your device. We are not responsible for any data loss, file corruption, accidental deletion, or damage to your files or device arising from the use of this app. You are solely responsible for maintaining backups of your important files.

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES: FileLens integrates third-party services (Google AdMob, Google Play Billing, Google ML Kit). We are not responsible for the practices, content, or availability of these third-party services. Your use of third-party services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK: You expressly understand and agree that your use of FileLens is at your sole risk. Any material downloaded or otherwise obtained through the use of the app is done at your own discretion and risk, and you will be solely responsible for any damage to your device or loss of data.

INDEMNIFICATION: You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the developers, owners, and affiliates of FileLens from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the app or violation of these terms.

MAXIMUM LIABILITY: In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, our liability shall be limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. In no event shall our total liability to you exceed the amount you paid for the app (if any), or $10 USD, whichever is greater.

SEVERABILITY: If any provision of this disclaimer is found to be unenforceable or invalid under applicable law, such provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if modification is not possible, shall be severed, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

GOVERNING LAW: These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from the use of FileLens shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of competent jurisdiction, as permitted by local law.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT: By downloading, installing, or using FileLens, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this disclaimer and limitation of liability. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the app.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
